SPRING 2022 BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS
EXHIBIT DESIGN BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY Boston Public Library opened a Special Collections department and were looking to have signage to accompany artifacts in the display cases in the lobby. They wanted to spark interest in these artifacts and their special collections through these cases.
We were given an overview of the topics Boston Public Library wanted to highlight in this display as they continued to curate content for the display cases. This process of acquiring artifacts to interpreting their meaning guided our concept design and the pacing of the display from case to case as we awaited final content from the library.
AGILE CONCEPTS FOR VARIABLE CONTENT
While designing these early concepts, we focused on adaptability because we didn't know what the content would look like and knew that the library intended on rotating out artifacts over time. Within our initial concepts, we played around with how to organize the categories of information, prioritizing the high-level concepts we were given versus flexibility for the rotating artifacts and finding the right balance between the two.

SPECIAL COLLECTIONS AT BOSTON PUBLIC LIBRARY
Boston Public Library chose the second concept with the arrow panels for the final direction. While I left my first internship after concept design, I saw the final installation during the fall semester when I returned to Arrowstreet for my second internship. The signage did change slightly to accommodate the desired artifacts once the library provided the final content to be displayed.
